Wildlife Viewing

LOOK, DON’T RUSH.

The Kootenay region is home to a wide range of wildlife, from deer and elk moving through open grasslands to bears, goats, and sheep higher in the mountains. Wetlands and forests carry their own quiet life, especially at dawn and dusk when the land feels most awake. Some days you’ll spot something right away. Other days, you’ll wait. That’s part of it.

Good wildlife viewing starts with respect. Go early or late. Stay quiet. Dress to blend in and keep the wind in your favour. Learn a bit about the species you hope to see and the habitats they prefer. Use binoculars or a long lens rather than stepping closer. Wildlife moves on its own schedule, and there are no guarantees. The reward is in the watching.
