A CENTRAL GREEN SPACE WITH DEEP LOCAL ROOTS
Baker Park sits at the corner of 1st Street South and 14th Avenue South, offering open space in the heart of Cranbrook. Named after Colonel James Baker, one of the city’s early settlers, the park reflects Cranbrook’s beginnings as a regional trading hub and its long-standing role as a gathering place.
At seven acres, it’s a well-used park shaped by movement, pause, and daily routines.
THE PARK
Baker Park is defined by open lawn, mature trees, and a calm, neighbourhood feel. A section of the paved Rotary Trail passes through the park, linking it naturally to walking and cycling routes around the city.
Picnic tables line the edges of the green space, shaded by established trees, with Joseph Creek and Mount Baker RV Park nearby. Its central location places it close to surrounding residential areas and one of Cranbrook’s main corridors.
SKATING AND ACTIVITY
The park includes outdoor public skating rinks, shared with nearby Pop Price Park. The rinks are lit in the evenings until 10:00 pm and maintained by the City of Cranbrook for public use.
These spaces support casual skating and informal games, adding another layer of activity to the park’s role in the community.
A NEIGHBOURHOOD ANCHOR
Baker Park functions as both a destination and a pass-through space. It’s a place to stop for lunch, move through on a walk, or gather with others for low-key recreation. Its design and location keep it flexible, familiar, and easy to return to.
