Overview
Wildhorse Cycling Club is a Cranbrook-based, non-profit cycling organization founded in 2011 to bring together riders of all disciplines. Registered with the Province of British Columbia and IMBA Canada, the club focuses on building community, supporting trails, and advocating for cyclists throughout the region.
Through organized rides, volunteer efforts, and partnerships with local businesses, Wildhorse Cycling Club plays an active role in shaping a welcoming and sustainable cycling culture in Cranbrook.
Group Rides
Group rides run seasonally from spring through fall, beginning May 1. Riders can join weekly ladies-only rides on Tuesdays and co-ed rides on Thursdays. These rides are a great way to meet other cyclists, explore local trails, and build skills in a supportive group environment.
Membership and signed waivers are required to participate in all group rides.
Advocacy and Trail Support
Wildhorse Cycling Club is deeply involved in cycling advocacy and trail stewardship. Membership fees directly support advocacy efforts on behalf of the cycling community and contribute to the ongoing care and promotion of local trail networks.
The club encourages riders to give back by practicing good trail etiquette and supporting trail maintenance efforts, often referred to as leaving a little trail karma behind.
Youth Mountain Bike Program
The Wildhorse Youth Mountain Bike Program is a six-week course designed for children aged 6 to 11. The program focuses on developing foundational mountain bike skills while riding Cranbrook’s green and blue trails, with a strong emphasis on safety, fun, and trail stewardship.
More than 20 volunteer coaches lead the program, many of whom are certified by the Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association. Riders are grouped using skill categories to ensure each child is placed in an appropriate and confidence-building environment.
Community and Involvement
Wildhorse Cycling Club thrives on community involvement and volunteer support. Riders of all abilities are encouraged to get involved, attend events, and become members to help strengthen Cranbrook’s cycling scene.
By joining the club, members support trail advocacy, youth programming, and the continued growth of a connected, inclusive cycling community in the East Kootenays.
