Cranbrook Community Theatre

SIX DECADES OF THEATRE, BUILT BY THE COMMUNITY

Cranbrook Community Theatre has been part of the city’s cultural life for more than 60 years, producing and presenting live theatre that reflects both local talent and a deep commitment to the performing arts. Performances, rehearsals, and creative work have drawn generations of participants and audiences into the same shared space.

The theatre’s guiding idea remains simple. Theatre for the community, by the community.

THE STUDIO AND STAGE DOOR

Since 1974, Cranbrook Community Theatre has called the Studio and Stage Door home. This city-owned heritage building was originally constructed in 1909 as a Masonic Temple and remains a distinctive presence in downtown Cranbrook.

Inside, the space includes a hardwood dance floor and an intimate theatre with seating for just over 80 people. The layout is flexible and welcoming, designed to support both performance and participation.

PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS

Over the decades, the Studio and Stage Door has hosted hundreds of theatrical productions, musical performances, and touring shows. It has also served as a venue for dance classes, art exhibitions, concerts, fashion shows, and community gatherings of many kinds.

The Stage Door has welcomed productions from local theatre groups, schools, and visiting performers, while the Studio has supported rehearsals, workshops, and creative experimentation across disciplines.

STEWARDSHIP AND ROLE IN THE CITY

Cranbrook Community Theatre operates as a non-profit society and holds stewardship of the Studio and Stage Door on behalf of the city. That role includes maintaining the building and keeping it active as a space for arts, culture, and community use.

By offering rehearsal, performance, and rental space in the downtown core, the theatre contributes to Cranbrook’s cultural continuity and creative life.
