A working gallery where Cranbrook makes, teaches, and shows its art.
Cranbrook Arts 1401 Gallery & Artspace sits on 5th Street with its doors open to curiosity and creativity. Built in 2019, this purpose-made space answers a real need in town: room to learn, experiment, and share art in all its forms.
Inside, you’ll find a formal gallery alongside classrooms and studios used for printmaking, pottery, fibre art, painting, sculpting, and more. The space has grown in phases, adding classrooms, an open gallery, and now a dedicated pottery studio. It’s built to evolve, just like the community it serves.
Programs and workshops run for all ages throughout the year. When classes aren’t underway, the Artspace shifts easily into a rental venue, hosting meetings, gatherings, and small events. At its core, 1401 is about staying useful, accessible, and rooted in Cranbrook.
Just steps from the gallery, the Cranbrook Arts Gift Shop brings local work into everyday life. Featuring pieces from more than 130 Kootenay artists, the shop offers paintings, prints, pottery, fibre art, and jewellery. It’s a good place to linger, ask questions, and leave with something made close to home.
