The Kootenay Trout Hatchery offers a family-friendly way to learn about freshwater fish and the ecosystems of the East Kootenay. Kids can try catch-and-release fishing at the children’s pond, with rods available for loan during the warmer months and staff on hand to help get things started. Nature trails wind through the grounds, offering chances to spot native plants, birds, and wildlife along the way.
The hatchery also hosts educational programs for school groups and can accommodate special events like birthday parties. Learn to Fish programs run throughout the summer at nearby lakes and parks, extending the experience beyond the site itself.
