Idlewild Park is one of Cranbrook’s most well loved green spaces, offering room to wander, play, and slow down among tall pines and open water.
A PARK WITH ROOM TO ROAM
Located in the southeast corner of Cranbrook, Idlewild Park spans more than 40 acres and is shaped by forest, open lawns, and a restored dam and reservoir pond. Scenic walking trails loop through the park, including an easy lake loop that suits all ages and abilities. Fishing docks extend out over the water, offering quiet places to pause and watch wildlife move through the area.
Originally developed as the city’s reservoir, the space was transformed into a community park in 1975 and continues to reflect that balance between nature and recreation.
SPACES FOR PLAY AND GATHERING
Idlewild Park is designed for time together. Picnic benches and covered pavilions sit beneath mature trees, while children’s play areas include playground equipment and zip lines. Open green spaces invite casual games and relaxed afternoons, and an outdoor amphitheatre adds space for gatherings and programming.
A horse riding arena, horseshoe pit, and an 18 hole par 3 disc golf course add to the park’s variety, making it one of the most versatile outdoor spaces in the city.
TRAILS, WILDLIFE, AND EASY ACCESS
Paved and natural trails wind throughout the park, offering gentle routes for walking, running, or bird watching. Wildlife is often visible around the pond and forest edges, adding to the sense of being immersed in nature while still within city limits.
Idlewild Park is equipped with multiple parking lots and washrooms, making visits simple and accessible for families, groups, and solo explorers alike.
